Raise your hand if you like waiting…….

UGH! Who likes waiting? I mean come on….

We want everything NOW! This is a gimme, gimme, I got to have it MY way generation.

And it keeps getting worse, by the day.

Welp, I’m guilty! You are guilty, we’re aaaaallll guilty!! Lol

That is definitely not to make impatience seem funny, cause even though it may seem like all fun and games to us, its serious business to God. Impatience is a control issue at its core. I want it my way, or a certain way and I want it quick fast and in a hurry. sound familiar? Yes?

You’re not alone chile. I have been THEE MOST impatient person I know. I grew up being the baby in my family. No matter what my fellow babies of the family try to say to save face, its a LIE. Lol. WE ARE SPOILED. Period. point blank. So let’s just woosah together, kumbaya my Lord and just face it, fix it and move forward.

What does the Bible say about patience?

Galatians 5:22-23

“The Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, PATIENCE, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things.”

Colossians 3:12-13

“Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.  Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.”

Other great Bible references: James 5:10-11, 2nd Peter 1:5-9

The Bible doesn’t sugar coat anything. Cause that last sentence in Colossians 3:12-13 is the pits! SO HARD TO DO, but if we think about how God constantly forgives us when we don’t deserve it, we will practice a lot more grace. But that’s a blog for another day. The Bible is straight to the point about how we should live, gives examples of sinful people just like us who failed constantly and needed grace and mercy daily just like us.

If we are honest with ourselves we just have a hard time putting it into practice in the moments where we need to most! Therefore as a result, we keep taking that same test over, and over, and over and over, and over again. Let me give you a visual example of the four stages we go through with God when it comes to patience…

STAGE 1: God why you trying me like this?!

angry-black-girl-400x295 This is the I’ve been waiting all my life for this or that type of people. They are literally UPSET with God, like legit “you owe me this one” type of people. The “I’ve been so obedient to you sooooo what’s up?” type of people.

Reality check: GOD OWES US NOTHING. God is not a genie. He is not open to our manipulation. We better be thankful he has grace and mercy to forgive our arrogant sinful attitudes like this!

STAGE 2: Laundry List

bbgirlThese are the PRO manipulators, beggers, please baby, please type of people. HATE WAITING. The seducers. They have a laundry list of things for God to do for them and haven’t lifted a finger to serve God or his people. Have they done some things in honor of God and not selfishness?? BARELY. Their pout is about a mile long and they will constantly remind you, God, (and anyone else who can stand to be around this whiner lol ) about their list of things God is going to do for them or should have done for them by now!

Reality check: God is not someone we can control, pout and get our way, or whine to and get things. Our parents may have fell for this, but God is a loving father, who allows us to have our fits and then patiently shows us his plan; which is always better!!!! Also, doing things for selfish recognition or gain will only make you wait longer, because God is not about that life.

STAGE 3: Overly Apologeticgirl

I’m sorry Jesus. I know you didn’t give me that man I wanted, that car I wanted, that Job position, that I’m well qualified for by the way, that outfit that I had to wear to that party, long fluffy beautiful hair down to my feet, or etc etc etc, FILL IN THE BLANK, but I love you still. These are the people who feel their sympathy will gain them points with God, in their heart they are probably still at stage 1, but are so good at this game that they can talk a frog into a wetsuit. Basically, their finesse game is STRONG.

Reality check: God probably laughs at this person (out of love) the most. Like, you really think you can run game on the king of kings?! Ha! Why do we do this though, like we be straight up lying sometimes when we say things like “God if you get me out of this I promise I’ll stop lying, I’ll give money to that cause, or God if you come through for me this time I’ll stop doing this sin, I promise, I’ll never do it again, I’m so sorry!” LIES, lies and mo LIES! Let’s just be REAL with God. He already knows our hearts and where we truly are in our walk with him.

STAGE 4: That’s all you had to say God??

blackgThese are the folk who FINALLY hear from God whether its through reading scripture, prayer, a friend, etc and they are NOT satisfied with the answer. Remember they hate waiting so no answer is good enough right now. Every answer  points to them remaining patient and they can’t take it. They second guess anything that comes to them about waiting on the Lord.

Reality Check: JUST WAIT. All that attitude is uncalled for.

I hope you were able to laugh at yourself as I laughed at myself noticing how I have hit all these stages in my relationship with God. I’m now (still growing in this) learning to just be still and trust God’s timing, plans and guidance. I have ran myself in circles trying to do it all my way. I hated waiting. Not waiting had me making bad decisions in all areas of my life; finances, relationships, friendships, jobs, etc.

It only hurts us when we refuse to relinquish control and give it over to the one who knows best.

Let’s practice waiting on God this week and really aim to make practical steps in doing so, this will look different for everyone because everyone is in different stages in life and have different circumstances. This my mean turning off things that temp you to envy, compare or lust after things you don’t have. This may mean stop talking to your home girl ALL THE TIME about what type of man you desire to marry. JUST CHILL. Trust God’s process. It’s definitely worth the wait!

So for those of you who are good at waiting and being patient…be patient with us as we aim to grow!

{P.S. I will be blogging every Sunday. I decided to post this one today because I didn’t want to wait. LOL. How Ironic right? So ya’ll be patient with me too now. As much as I would love to blog everyday I have real life going on here in the DMV, like I legit almost forgot to take the salmon out the freezer to defrost for dinner tonight. the struggle is real! LOL.} I will post that that recipe soon! 😉
